Clout Chasing

Public Service Announcement!  Stop clout chasing.  Do not ride someone’s coattails, when they are mega successful when you were not around while they were building what is now mega successful. 

People, including your friends, family, and associates, start new projects and new businesses, every day.  For me, I just recently started my Blog & Podcast, and other creative projects that I’m working on.  Here’s the thing.  It is absolutely free to promote your friends and their business, and what they are working on.  It cost you nothing to tell people that your friend, your cousin, niece, nephew, bestie, and so on, is working on this or that, and to share their website.  It is free.  But oftentimes, as unfortunate as it may be, support does not always come from family and friends, but mostly strangers, some of whom become family and friends.

But all of the sudden, when you become extremely successful, which you will, here comes those non-supporters wanting to celebrate with you.  You know the ones that say, “that’s my cousin,” “that’s my bestie,” or “that’s my this or my that.”  But here’s the question.  Where were you when they were building what is now successful?  Not once did you promote, comment on or like any of their posts about their business.

They now want to celebrate with you, although they were missing in action during those days and nights when you felt alone and wanted to give up. Those times when you questioned yourself and your abilities but forced yourself to keep going because you believed deep down that you would be successful. Did they even encourage you at all along the way? Tell them to go back to where they were when you were building what is now mega successful; over there.

It is unfair to think that you should be able to come along to celebrate ones’ success when you were not around when they were building their business. Again, it is free to promote your friends, and trust me, they will remember those who did. So go out and celebrate and promote your friends’ business as you would want them to promote yours. Share their website or their products, and just let people know what they do. It cost you nothing.
