Dear Future Self

Writing letters can sometimes trigger emotions within us that we buried deep down long ago or evoke emotions that we were not even aware of.  Letters to self, whether to our present self, or past or future self, allow us to reflect on our accomplishments, as oftentimes we are our own worst critics.  These moments of reflection allow us to truly appreciate all that we have accomplished and take a moment of self-care to give ourselves a pat on the back.  I previously wrote a letter to my younger self, which you can read by clicking hereNow, I choose to write a letter to my older / future self.

Dear Sharron,

I hope that this letter finds you in great health, happiness and joy.  I am overwhelmed with so much hope for the future.  As you know, you have always been optimistic about everything that you wanted to achieve in the present and in the future.  I pray that you have been able to live a life of abundance, prosperity, love, and peace.  I also pray that you have pursued and fulfilled every dream, goal, and desire that you have had.

I hope that you never gave up, and have been living life to the fullest.  Giving up was never an option, because you never were a quitter.  I hope that you have kept that same positive mindset, and that you have continued to be brave, courageous, and vulnerable.  I am confident that whatever obstacles you came across in your journey of fulfilling your dreams, that you have easily overcome them.

Always remember to stop and smell the roses, and show yourself appreciation and gratitude every step of the way, no matter how far you have come.  Never forget to maintain an attitude of gratitude because how can we expect to be given more if we do not appreciate what we already have.  Remember to always take time for yourself and to simply enjoy the beauty of this thing called life.  Self-care is and always will be the best care.  Taking care of your body and mind will go a long way, and I pray that you find ways to keep active.

I hope that you have established some amazing, lifelong relationships and friendships that you will cherish forever.  Remember to stay connected, reaching out and making time to meet face-to-face, especially in today’s technologically driven society, which I’m sure is even more so in the future.

You have always enjoyed helping other people and I hope that you have maintained that, helping others whenever possible.  Not only is it the right thing to do, but it makes you feel good inside.  You never know what people may be going through, and how you could be the catalyst that makes them smile for the first time in a long time.

Continue seeking knowledge and wisdom often.  You have always had a love of learning and I am hopeful that you still do.  Please continue to read books, write your own books and articles, explore new hobbies, take classes of topics that interest you, and so on.  Remember to appreciate the small things in life, never taking for granted the beauty of nature and the simplicity of the small moments, which typically have the greatest impact.

As you look back on life, I pray that you are fulfilled, satisfied, and content, and have created your own reality on your own terms to live an amazing, fun, and adventurous life of love, travel, abundance, peace, and happiness.

Love,

Your Younger Self
