Let’s Travel to Singapore!

I love Singapore!  In a previous blog article entitled “Favorite Travel Destinations,” which you can read here, I spoke about Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which is also an amazing place to visit.  But now, I want to talk about Singapore, which is one of Asia’s top travel destinations for a reason.  One word; spectacular.

Throughout my life I have been blessed to have traveled to some amazing places around the world.  Trying new foods, learning new traditions, customs, and cultures, and meeting new people with different perspectives and stories will enrich your life greatly.  If you are able to, please travel.  By the way, also be sure to check out my other previous blog article entitled “Traveling” by clicking here.

First things first.  Depending on where you are traveling from in the world, and the flight path, Singapore is far!  It was just about 10,000 miles each way for me from the Northeast in the U.S., so to say I was exhausted when I arrived, especially given the time difference, would be an understatement.  I traveled from Newark, New Jersey on United Airlines to Tokyo, Japan, and then onward to Singapore via ANA All Nippon Airways, which by the way, is a fabulous airline.  I highly recommend.

I stayed in Singapore for a little over two weeks, and I still did not see everything that I wanted to see, so a return trip is a must.  Not to mention, Singapore’s airport, Changi Airport is a sight in and of itself.  With nature inspired terminals, a butterfly garden, a rooftop swimming pool, movie theaters offering free movie screenings, an indoor forest with a cascading waterfall, and much, much more, you could spend hours in this gorgeous airport simply exploring, eating, and shopping.  This airport wasn’t named the world’s best airport yet again in 2023 by the Skytrax World Airport Awards for nothing.  Click here for source.

Prior to our arrival in Singapore, I had arranged roundtrip airport transportation on Expedia, which I usually do for every trip, and they were waiting on us with a fully air-conditioned, clean, and modern sedan.  The blasting AC was a welcome gift, as Singapore, which is located below the equator is very hot!  Sometimes it was like stepping into an oven!

However, Singapore is beautiful, opulent, friendly, and amazingly clean, which was one of the first things that I noticed.  Even the restrooms at the train stations were spotless.  The only other place that I have been to where I could make this claim is Dubai.  I’m sure that there are others, but for me, these two are top tier when it comes to cleanliness.

During our stay in Singapore, we stayed at Fraser Place Robertson Walk in the Robertson Quay area which is along the Singapore River.  I absolutely love this area which is known for its nightlife, restaurants, wine bars, art, hotels, cafes, and high-class condominiums.  There was always something happening in this area, which made for a lively trip, and this is an amazing area for families as well.

Adjacent to Robertson Quay are Clarke Quay and Boat Quay, just down the river.  Both have amazing sights and attractions and are known for some of Singapore’s best night life.  And let’s not forget about the shopping!  In addition to being a foodie who loves to try new foods, I also love to shop, and there is plenty of shopping in Singapore.

From Riverside Point, to Liang Court, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, to the Central Mall and many more, you will definitely find something that you love.  However, I must mention Orchard Road, which you could literally spend days on.  My mother and I attended brunch at the Singapore Hilton on Orchard Road, which is just one of many hotels in the area.  On this road, you will also find ION Orchard, which is simply an architectural wonder and work of art, full of luxury shopping.  My other favorite shopping area is Bugis Junction, which is part indoor and part open-air shopping.  It is a combination of a street market and mall with plenty of amazing food items to choose from.

If you plan to travel to Singapore, I highly recommend considering a visit to the following: India Street, Arab Street, Afternoon Tea at the Fullerton Hotel Singapore (So amazing with a wonderful harpist), a visit to the Merlion Statute, Sentosa Island to visit Universal Studios, a trip on the Singapore River Cruise, Gardens by the Bay, a ride on the Singapore Flyer, and a visit to the Harbourfront Walk and Centre.  This list is my no means all inclusive, as there is so much to do in Singapore, but these are just a few of the activities that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Lastly a visit to Singapore would not be complete without visiting Ce La Vi, atop the Marina Bay Sands Hotel, which is an icon and a landmark destination in Singapore to say the least.  Sitting atop the massive hotel, the top of which looks like a boat that overlooks the bay, the views are unparalleled, as time literally stands still.  And of course, a visit to Singapore would not be complete with drinking a Singapore Sling, and at Ce La Vi, they are absolutely delicious!  The Marina Bay Sands Hotel is also home to the Marina Bay Sands Casino where you could try your luck.  You never know.  You may just leave Singapore slightly richer than you came.

Overall Singapore is an amazing destination and I look forward to my next visit to experience even more of all that Singapore has to offer.
